Dear Higher Grounds Family,
We’d like to put faces on the many customer email address we have. So please send us your funniest, weirdest, craziest, funniest coffee drinkin’ pictures and we’ll publish on the site.
Thanks,
Mark
As I sit here drinking my Kona Coffee from the Big Island of Hawaii I begin to ponder the events of yesterday’s 9th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. I remember that day very well in 2001. I was living in Arizona and was oblivious to the morning’s events as I waited at the end of my driveway at 7:00 MST (9:00 EST) for my ride to work. Vern came that morning, like every other morning, except this time he looked at me as if waiting for me to comment. He asked if I’d been following the news and when I said I hadn’t he filled me in on the events up to that point.
The 3rd plane had not yet hit the Pentagon and the 4th plane was still unaccounted for which would eventually crash over Shanksville, PA. That day was filled with terror, fear, curiosity, anger, sadness, horror and hope. It almost seemed surreal, like it was happening in a far-away land as I was in Arizona and the events were unfolding on TV in New York City. It became very local and very real; however, when an email message to “all users” at my company asked us to pray (yes “pray” on a company email) for a colleague (my peer and friend) as he was on his way to a meeting in the Towers when the first plane hit and no one can reach him. We instantly became glued to CNN, no longer as spectators to a far-away tragedy, but as stakeholders in one of the worst tragedies to hit our great Land. We clung to hope that each new camera angle would reveal his whereabouts. We never saw our friend that day like the thousands of others watching never saw their friends, family or loved ones. And for some, that last phone conversation, kiss or nod in the hallway would forever be just that – their last.
Tony did make it back home safely but a different man (another story-another day). As I look back at those events and relive the feelings, I become overwhelmed with gratitude and humility. I support my Country as best I can. If the economy is not doing well, I look to see how I can make if better, versus pointing fingers at those I do not agree with. I look to see what is right with my Country versus reflecting on those things that are not. I constantly ask myself, “what I can do?” because I’m convinced one person CAN make a difference. I buy American products when I can like this Kona Coffee that is 100% grown, processed and roasted in the UNITED States of America.
We live in a strong and resilient Country. As with any living, breathing, learning organism, our great Country will go through cycles of change where it will seem hopeless and dark. But I also know that it is darkest just before the dawn. We have much to be grateful for and life is good, just ask Tony, or my dad – a WWII vet, or the survivors of 9/11, or my son.
Live free and drink American Kona Coffee!
Hey guys – I will be doing my “COOL COFFEE FACTS” from my new blog going forward. Please help suppport Trish and I by adding comments to our blog. Thanks
We are finally live with our new website and shopping cart. We will be blogging in the next few days, go come and visit and come often!
We have grown a bit and it has become necessary to update our website to accommodate more of the needs of today’s on-line buyers. While the look and feel will remain the same, we’ve added some cool stuff like this new blog so you can share your coffee experiences with the rest of the Higher Grounds family; a Monthly Java Club so you can get your coffee sent to you (or a friend) automatically each month; a video and article library where you can read cool coffee facts or watch tutorials on how to brew awesome coffee and a “Where’s Barb” section tracking and guessing the exotic locations of Barb on her journey around the world drinking Higher Grounds coffee.
The website may appear slightly different, but the coffee will still be roasted personally by us and delivered to your door fresh. It will always be the simple and that fresh – always! Of course, the web address will remain the same at www.highergroundscoffeecompany.com.
While several of these sections will still be growing when you first log in, Trish and I would love your suggestions and feedback as we fill the site with content. In fact, we’d really enjoy having some of your pictures enjoying your coffee or your articles about coffee sent to us for posting on our page. This will be like our Higher Grounds Family Album staring….you!
So please “pardon the dust” these first few weeks as we grow the content and add more coffee choices and cool content. When ordering on the new site, you will have to enter your customer information again – sorry.
NOTE: For those ordering from the 08043 and 08053 zip code – we will still offer free deliver to your door with a 2 lb. minimum. The only difference is that you’ll need to use the coupon code: FSO. So when you go to check out on the cart type in FSO in the coupon section and it will show free delivery (only to the 08043 & 08053 zip codes – sorry Florida – it’s a little too far to drive).
If you have ANY questions or need support ordering, please call us directly on our cell at 609.254.0907 and we will answer personally to help. Thanks again for making us such a success and we look forward to roasting up many more pounds of your favorite coffee. Have a great Labor Day.
Sincerely,
Mark & Trish Devlin
